Visiting Sanibel Island in Florida
Sanibel Island in Florida is an amazing place it has beauty, good food, history, and it is the shell capitol of the world.
The island has beaches covered with shells. If you go outside at low tide you can unbroken shells on the beach. If you wade out into the ocean to look for bigger shells you should where a life jacket. (Currents, drop-offs ECT) Another thing we saw at the beach was a pair of dolphins who could swim close to the beach. These dolphins where a crowd pleaser because they let all the people pet them. They took off after a kid hoped on one.
There are many good places to eat. The sea food in Florida is amazing so if you are going on vacation save up you money so you can eat out. Usually these places are more expensive.
Sanibel Island has hotels each complete with their own amazing swimming pool. They even have scuba diving lessons for the kids in the pool for around $60. They just teach kids the basics and let them have some fun diving in the pool.
The island was discovered by Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513 while he was on his glorious quest to find the Fountain of Youth. Juan Ponce de Leon named the Island Santa Isabella after Queen Isabella of Spain. The island was used as a major pirate base for the famous buccaneer Jose Gaspar. It is said that he buried hordes of treasure on the island. The light house which still works today was light for the first time on August 20, 1884
Many well known famous people have used Sanibel Island as a vacation spot or home, some of these people are Charles Lindberg, Tomas Edison, President Teddy Roosevelt, Jay Norwood, “Ding Darling Charles Lindbergh, Thomas Edison, and President Teddy Roosevelt. Jay Norwood, "Ding" Darling Ding left the biggest mark because he campaigned for the protection and preservation of the islands wetlands. Now thanks to Ding we can see beautiful wild life how it should be in the Ding Darling national wildlife refuge witch occupies ½ of the entire island.
Overall Sanibel Island is the place to go for a remarkable vacation, for you and the family. That is not overly expensive, but is still a remarkable place to vacation. You will most likely be amazed with the quality of this islands history, food, and beauty.
